tunnel vision

solo exhibition

the vault gallery, victoria BC.

Tunnel Vision is an exhibition that features an ensemble of mostly acrylic-based paintings, and an installed collection of food and drink orders from my experience in the service industry. More than anything, it is a culmination of work that has resulted from an interest in learning an unearthed form of language.

As an abstract painter, I rely heavily on intuitive notions both to build a composition and subsequently find a way to reconcile the work. Every painting is a maze where the end goal is to reach a coherent fragment that conveys what I cannot say in words. This myopic process results in my inability to focus on more than one painting at a time, similar to the total absorption of focus that waiting tables demands. Through this fixation with coded language, Tunnel Vision aims to draw attention to the various ways in which language can be perceived and revealed.
